OMS Music for Windows: Privacy Policy
Last updated 22 October 2026
OMS Music for Windows is made by OrderMySite (Francis Mwaka, Uganda). It has no accounts, no ads and no analytics. Your music, playlists, play history, favorites and settings stay on your computer. This page explains what the app keeps, what it sends over the internet and why.
What stays on your computer
- Your library: the list of your songs, albums, artists, playlists, favorites, play counts, bookmarks, audiobook places, saved lyrics and the changes you make to song details. This is kept in a database in
%LocalAppData%\OMS Music. - Copies for safety: the app keeps a copy of that database once a day (the last five days) in a
Backupsfolder beside it. - Pictures and downloads: album covers, radio station pictures, subtitles and podcast episodes you choose to download.
- Your settings, including your Plus license code and the date you first started the app (also kept as one value in the Windows registry for your user).
- A problem log: if the app crashes, a short report is written to the
Logsfolder. It is never sent anywhere. You can open or delete it from Settings. - Recordings: songs you record from a radio station are saved in
Music\OMS Music Recordings. Record only what you may; the station's own terms apply. - Your ListenBrainz token, if you choose to paste one in, is kept in your settings on this computer and used only to send your listens to your own ListenBrainz account.
- Sync files (.omssync) are written only where you tell the app to save them, to carry your favorites and playlists to the Android app, and read only when you pick them. They contain song titles, artists and playlist names, not the music itself. How you move the file between your devices is up to you.
- Playlist files (.m3u) and podcast lists (.opml) are written only where you tell the app to save them, and read only when you pick them.
What leaves your computer
The app connects to the internet only when you use a feature that needs it. It sends the least that feature needs. It sends no identifier of you or your computer to any of these services, beyond what an internet connection itself shows (your network address) and the name of the app in the request.
| Feature | Service | What is sent |
|---|---|---|
| Lyrics (and lyrics for songs other apps play) | LRCLIB | Artist, title, album and length of the song |
| Find song details and covers online | MusicBrainz, Cover Art Archive, Apple iTunes Search | Artist and title (or what you typed) |
| Artist photo and biography | Wikipedia | The artist's name |
| Internet radio | Radio Browser directory, and the station itself | Your search; the station sees a normal listener connection |
| "Find it on YouTube" for a song heard on the radio | Your web browser opens YouTube | The song's name, only when you click it. YouTube then applies its own policy |
| TV channels | The open iptv-org lists, and the channel's own server | The list request; the channel sees a normal viewer connection |
| Free films | Internet Archive | Your search and the film you open |
| Subtitles for a video | OpenSubtitles | The language and either a fingerprint of the video file (its size and a checksum of small parts of it) or the title, season and episode. You can switch online subtitle search off in Settings |
| Listening history (off until you switch it on in Settings) | ListenBrainz (listenbrainz.org), the open listening-history service | Your ListenBrainz token, and for each song you finish: its title, artist, album, length and the time you listened. Radio streams are not sent. You can switch it off or delete the token at any time |
| Podcasts | Apple's podcast directory, and each show's own server | Your search; the show's server sees a normal download |
| Looking for a new version | ordermysite.com | Nothing beyond a normal web request. It happens only when you press "Check for updates", or at start if you switch that on |
These services have their own privacy policies. The Microsoft Store version is updated by the Store, so it does not look for updates itself.
Windows features the app uses
- Your music and video folders: the app reads the folders you add to it, to list and play what is in them. It does not read other folders.
- Media controls: the app shows what is playing in Windows' media overlay and answers your keyboard's media keys. If you switch on "Lyrics for other apps", it also reads the name, artist, album and place in the song that Spotify, a browser or another app shares with Windows' media controls, and uses them to find the lyrics. Nothing else about the other app is read.
- Notifications: only if you switch them on, for a new song or a finished library scan.
- Start with Windows: only if you switch it on.
- File types: so music and video files can be opened with OMS Music. Windows decides the default program.
- Send to a TV or speaker: only when you choose it. Windows' own casting list is used.
OMS Music is a desktop program (it runs with the same rights as you). It does not use your camera, microphone, contacts, location or files you did not point it to.
OMS Music Plus
A license code is checked on your computer. Nothing is sent when you enter it. When you buy Plus from OrderMySite, we receive what you tell us (your name, your email, the payment reference) so that we can make and send your code and help you if you lose it. We keep it for that and for our records. The payment itself is handled by your mobile money provider under its own policy.
Children
OMS Music is not aimed at children and collects no personal information from anyone.
Your control
- Every online feature can be left unused, and the optional ones (notifications, start with Windows, keep playing in the tray, sending listens to ListenBrainz, lyrics for other apps, online subtitle search, artist biographies) have switches in Settings.
- To remove everything the app keeps, uninstall it and delete the
%LocalAppData%\OMS Musicfolder. Songs, recordings and files you saved elsewhere stay where they are.
Changes to this policy
If the app starts to keep or send something new, this page is updated first and the date above changes.
